Dead Sea - Geography
The Dead Sea located in the rims of Judean desert, between Israel and Jordan. It west cost is under Israel territory and it east under Jordan. Also important to know that It coasts are in the lowest place in the world – in 2008 it was 421 meters under the sea level.
In 2002 Dead Sea's field was 650 square kilometers, it size was 67 k"m width,18 k"m height, and 380 m depth (800m under the sea level). Because the sea drying out, the Dead Sea level consistency retreat. (In 1930 it size was 1,038 square kilometers, 76-78 k"m width, and 17.5 k"m height. It even enter a few kilometers into the south Sodom mountain).
Dead Sea crack endemic from it both sides by giant cliffs, transverses by deep canyons, in them flows rains water. This phenomenon happened because the levels different in the tight horizontal section between the seabed (700 m' under the sea level) and the near mountains (that rich to 1200 m').
The north basin was mapped in the beginning of the 20 century by William Francis Lynch – American sea officer which found that the seabed is flat and the basin is with precipitous sides as opposed to the south basin which it seabed is only 5 m' until the coast.
Between the north and the south basin found half island called Dead Sea tongue. Its north part called Costigan headland (after the Irish researcher Christopher Costigan), and the south part called Molina headland (after the British sea officer - Thomas Howard Molyneux).
